About Northumberland Hospital Radio - NHR

Northumberland Hospital Radio is run entirely by unpaid volunteers. Although NHR is an independent registered charity, it is also part of the voluntary services provision of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Our volunteers are very proud to be associated with one of the UK's consistently top-performing, progressive, NHS Trusts.

NHR broadcasts 24 hours a day using a computer-based playout system to provide patients and staff with a quality blend of easy listening music, mixed with information and presenter-introduced programmes.

Hear us at Hexham, North Tyneside and Wansbeck General Hospitals on Hospedia radio channel 1, at Alnwick Infirmary and Blyth Community Hospital on bedside radio channel 1 and at Northumbria Hospital on the Lincor bedside entertainment system, radio channel 1.

Listening to NHR at Northumbria Healthcare Hospitals is completely free of charge. You do not need to purchase a viewing card.

If you are a patient at Hexham, North Tyneside or Wansbeck, you will normally be registered on the Hospedia system for meal ordering, on admission to the ward. You can then listen to NHR - as well as a selection of other radio channels - all day free of charge.

At Alnwick Infirmary and Blyth Community Hospital a brand new nurse call system has been installed which offers approximately 10 radio channels - including NHR - in digital stereo quality. You may need to ask a member of staff for the loan of a walkman-style headset, which should always be left for the use and benefit of the next patient.
